Posts about: These Are The Easy Things I Have Made

Do the questions ever end? I was messaging a good friend of mine, telling her how I would love to have a day without questions. I told her how I escaped to my room today to avoid questions, but they still found me. Guess what I did in my room? I cleaned out my drawer. I posted to Facebook this post about a minimalist game. There's a few of us in on it right now. You give away/get rid of how ever many items correspond with the number of day it is in the month. Whoever lasts the longest, wins. I may even send something to the winner. What a great way to reward getting rid of stuff? With more stuff! lol. Today is the 5th so I give away 5 items. It's really working out for me. I told my same friend I may need a coupla months to get my whole house done.

I love my kids. Am I doing the right thing homeschooling? I don't know. I question it a lot. I also question my sanity. It's good for us though. I do envy parents with kids in school sometimes and then in the same day feel thankful when those same parents experience sad/frustrating things with school stuff.
I had a lunch today with a few friends. We ordered takeout Greek food from a local restaurant and I am super disappointed. In fact, I felt a little angry because the portions in comparison to the prices, were ridiculous. I'm not even being my exaggerating self when I say that this soup we ordered was about 1/4 cup. They put it in this huge tin too. It was suuuuppppper lame. My friend got a salad and paid 9 euro for it and it was the size of a side salad. Bummer deal. I told my friend my favorite part of the lunch was the diet Dr. Pepper she gave me. Haha.
So what do you think I should do about my life? I am super passionate about a few things. I don't feel like i have the voice for it right now. And I can't seem to focus on just one thing. So then I just shy away from it all because it's all so random and crazy, just like this post.
I'm frustrated with Army life right now. I see David for about 20 minutes a day on average. I'm hoping it will let up soon. Hahahah. That's a funny joke right? I'm grateful for the opportunity to be part of a unit that is so active, because it means more job satisfaction for David, but it's also frustrating for the families of these busy men.
Life is funny that way. The grass is always greener right?
Onto more boring stuff.
Jackson lost a tooth the other day. He lost it from his mouth and he lost it from his pocket. The tooth fairy hasn't visited because she is lazy. I think he needs to write the tooth fairy a letter before she will deliver. That's the rule right? Yeah. I'm going with that. Does the tooth fairy come to your house?
He is also starting to ask questions about birds and bees stuff. So I bought this book called, "What's Biology all about? And there's a section on reproduction. It says something about how a man "pushes his penis into a woman's vagina". It makes me feel really awkward. Isn't there a better term than "pushes"? I think I'd rather explain it to him on our own before he reads that. Because I would be terrified of that if I were a kid. How did you find out about the birds and the bees? I really want to be open about these types of things. I just don't think I'm ready for it. Haha. I know, me? I have another book called, "Questions kids ask about Sex". Guess I better pull that out. Pun intended.
I think I'm done with being boring. Here's some pictures.

I wanted something different for Valentines Day. Something thoughtful and non-commercial. Well that, and we live in Germany where selection is limited. I should totally buy German Valentines. Do they do that? And add in the fact that I haven't seen the outside world in a few days. But we also don't need a box of 32 Valentines when we are a Homeschooling family of 5. So I made my own for da kids!
Here's a downloadable version if you too want a cheap and free Valentine!
They were printed on a regular 8.5" by 11" sheet of paper. They each colored and filled them out all by themselves minus help with spelling. :-)
This is Jackson's Minecraft Valentine:
Anyway, I'm pretty proud of my work. I can't take credit for the images which were found at various free coloring page sites that I did not save. I will try and find them again to credit.
This is Sadie's Monster High Valentine:

You've seen these Around the Clock bridal showers right? Or bachelorette parties? But have you seen this? Not until now.
This was the invite. If you'd like to throw an around the clock shower and want to use this invite, please tell me. I'll send it to you! Fa Free! I handwrote different times. Secretly, I did a little more of one or two (like mommy and eating time) based on moms needs.
The thing about my showers is they are always really cheap. And always really fun! Just kidding. I don't make them fun. It's the people. Secretly I try to center a theme around things that are already in season. With it being almost Valentines day at the time of the shower, I went with a purple and pink color scheme.
I searched far and wide for candy watches. These are from my childhood and pretty difficult to find. I found them at a candy store in Phoenix for really cheap. I found them here. They were $18 for 48 of them. That's a good price!
That's pretty much all! It was fun to do. Like I've said before, I can't wait until I can do this for a living and get paid to do it instead of PAYING to do it. :-) It'll be a different world. It's good practice for now, coming up with decos/favors on a budget!

You know when you read Single Dad Laughing you are reading about his real life. And the people in his life know they may or may not make it onto his blog at one point or another. Consider this your official notice and warning.
There's been a significant amount of events lately that are totally blog worthy however I'm trying to let things settle down before I go public with them. Ill let Lady Gaga and my bff Miley keep the headlines for now.
I would like to mention the insanity that was this past weekend. There was craft night, baby shower night, and birthday party day all in a row.
Here's some pictures. I have a beautiful, intuitive, smart, 5 year old. Just the other day we were at the Grand Canyon and we asked all the kids who made the Grand Canyon, the boys thought maybe Grandpa could've made the Grand Canyon but it was Sadie who piped up first and said, "Jesus made it." There's been several moments lately where her thought process is so deep it causes David and I too look at each other like 'where did that come from?'.
So here's pictures because I don't quite have the words right now.
Baby Shower for the lovely Shaundra. It's unfortunate I didn't get the very best picture of her doing a heart on her belly with the most appropriate facial expression ever. Oh man. Good times.
I guess now would be an appropriate time to pimp myself out for all your party needs. The thing is, I'm a cheapskate. I don't do anything expensive. So if you/re looking for super expensive fancy happy stupid, then call someone else. I mean, I could if you have the money to pay for it, but otherwise, I just use what I have and do it so that it's not really crazy. I mean, it seems ridiculous to me to spend so much money on something that you're just gonna tear down. You know?

What the? Can you believe it? We started our space unit today for unschooling. I hope you Pin my awesomeness. Hahahahah. Just kidding. I'll do it myself. Hahahahaha. I'm hilarious.
Anyway, I got my ideas from many people which is mostly the purpose for writing this blog. I'm thankful for the resources available to me. A lot of other women and men have already done the hard work. I just get to use their ideas.
Somebody that I used to know (get the reference? It's a song), recommended this blog to me. I read a few posts and shared it with another friend who needed some validation on the unschooling. I told her that this girl kind of makes me feel like a rockstar for choosing to homeschool. It's a good decision for us.
I got a lot of my ideas from this blog. I hope you don't go there because she makes me look bad. lol. I'm grateful I found it though because I was able to put together several of my ideas from her week long unit.
The kids woke up to this weeks basket of fun. There's moon dough, felt, books from library, stickers, beads, and markers, paper, etc.
We started by reading a few books from the library on the basics of the solar system. That there are planets, they have names and moons, and suns and stars. Then we did a worksheet activity that had the planets on them. They colored them, cut them out, and pasted them in order on black construction paper. And now I can't find the place I got the worksheet from. Grrr.... Let me get back to you on that. That was it for today. It took a good 2 hours or so. We spent the rest of the morning doing chores, and playing with each other. Oh, did you know that most materials don't have the updated news that Pluto is no longer a planet. Makes me so mad. I'm part of this group on Facebook called, "When I was a kid, Pluto was still a planet." haha.
I haven't taken a picture of the final product. It was enough just to get these pictures. Now, don't get me wrong. This day was not full of bliss and happiness. We had ups and downs and it was hard. Harder than I'll admit. But it was good. And I'm gonna keep going. I'm so excited for this journey. Do you homeschool? Do you use a curriculum? If so, which one?

So I love Pinterest. So do you right? I made this monkey bread loaf pull-apart thing based on a recipe from All Things Delicious which I found via Pinterest. I'm super lazy and didn't want to get out have access to, a fluted pan. So I used a loaf pan. And it was awesome.
Pillsbury Biscuit Monkey Bread Happiness Mock Breakfast Ring Dump Loaf
1 tube Pillsbury Grands Buttermilk/Flaky Layers biscuits
3 Tbsp. butter or margarine, melted
1/3 C. pure maple syrup OR 1/2 cup syrup
1/3 C. packed brown sugar
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 C. chopped walnuts (or other nut, optional)
Bake at 350 for 20 mins or until golden brown. Secretly I think it took longer but I don't want you to burn yours.
After it was done, I turned it over and dumped it onto a plate so all the good stuff at the bottom was not on top. Oh my. Can we have some now?
Can you believe I made that? I sure can't. Don't tell anyone either. I'm super embarrassed i'm even posting this. But please tell me how yours turns out. Text me!
