I don't remember where I put the hammer I borrowed from Self Help. I also don't know how we accrued $120 in library fees. These things are all part of the experience that is out-processing. Yesterday David attended a levy brief signifying the beginning of the End.
When I got this hammer I thought they gave me a broken one, turns out it's just awesome design. Photo cred (worth a read)

The pre-inspector guy came and judged me for my walls and my messy house. Well, I don't really know if he did. I explained to my friends that he was very clearly German meaning he was to the point, and not overly-friendly but also not rude. It's this very weird mix of emotion. He gave me a sweet deal, only charging me $150 to paint our whole house! That means I don't have to paint the teal wall, or the greige wall, or the purple wall or the red wall NOR do I have to paint over the grimy handprints/smudges that line the hand-level of the various children in my house. Fine, there's some at my level too okay? Because no hand-rail and a previous broken ankle leg make me more cautious. I also don't have to fill in the gaping holes caused by attempts to drill into the cement that are some of the walls here.

The inspector pulled out his black light and shined it on the kids carpets which we will obviously have to work on because I have "artistic" kids who like paint and other various liquids that should probably not be used for potion-making.

What I'm having trouble with is selling my stuff. I've given SO much away but there are a few things I really feel like others might enjoy. Apparently they WANT to enjoy them but they don't want to put forth the effort of obtaining them. Now I totally understand why people rant about the people that don't follow through. I'm about to go all Bad Grammar Police on them.

I screenshot your bad grammar/spelling. Only if it's really bad.

Although it's nearing the end, I really am excited for what's to come. Will you come visit me?

Here's a good one! I haven't covered this yet but it has come up quite a bit lately. So for informational purposes, I borrowed a graphic from someone way smarter than me and made this:

Do you remember those clever Tide commercials? Obviously they did a great job with these because I remember them 8 years later.

This makes me lol so much especially when the stain gets louder.

Anyway, this is what bad spelling and grammar looks and sounds like to me. Maybe you are the smartest person in the world but when you spell weirdly this commercial immediately comes to mind. lol. In real life though, I generally have talking stains every day!

Well there isn't one yet because we are living in between homes.

This is how the Elf looked my entire childhood
BUT! I have one.
First I'd like to preface this post saying this is a rebuttal for the somewhat viral post on how awful elves on the shelf are. If you aren't Mormon, then you are less likely to have read it. But you can because it has nothing to do with the church. And she is a hilarious writer. It's worth a read. Anyway, you can read it or you can not read it. It doesn't really have anything to do with my thoughts except towards the end where some of my complete bewilderment in the form of rage comes out.

The story goes something like this:

Remember how last year the hype started with the elves on the shelves? I remember seeing pictures all over the interwebs, mostly on Facebook, with pictures of naughty elves doing crazy things! I loved seeing the pictures. It made my smile and then frown because I didn't have one. I was a little jealous.

SO! I got one.

It was an after-Christmas special at Hastings.  Because it was no longer the season for the elf, I put him away on a shelf in a box. I still haven't opened it.

And I've never read the book. And probably never will.

But we will participate in elf happiness. Because it's meant to be fun!

As a child I remember an elf being a part of our holiday décor. It was probably an original because he was old and frayed and still creepy as ever. I always thought he was an ugly little bugger. And I wondered what he was doing. He looked so out of place what with his crazy eyes. BUT he was there every year. And I believe I even saw him last year at my moms house in her entertainment center. She never read us the book though, we were not persuaded to be good because of the elf. He didn't shred toilet paper, or spill milk or do other such things. He was there as a decoration and now as an adult, I'm sure for nostalgia on the part of my mom, and for me too.

Therefore, I am going to implement an elf in our house. We don't have many traditions yet and I think this will be a fun one. I am way too lazy to even create a board on Pinterest dedicated to elf ideas but I might move him around from time to time. And I might even use him as an excuse to get my kids to behave better.

About that. You're telling me you've NEVER used the "Santa will bring you coal if you don't behave?" If you haven't, then maybe you're the bad parent as the author so slyly accused us of. You're not doing your job, if you don't use Christmas/Jesus/Hanukah as a reason for your kids to behave during this holiday season. There I said it. And I'm joking. But it kind of sounds legit right?

Because if you don't then you're just giving kids crap for being what? Being alive? Yeah right. Christmas is TOTALLY a time to get the best behaviour out of your kids when the rest of year there's nothing else to hang over their heads. Hahahaha. I totally hate myself for saying that. And I don't believe it. But I do think this is a special time of year specifically for the reason that kids seem to have good manners and do good deeds because even if you aren't inundating them with threats of Santa not coming, the rest of the world is. You're kid gets asked all the time if he or she is being good. It's happening to them at school, and at the grocery store and at Church.

According to the author, here are some logical tidbits about the Elf on the Shelf

What does this teach kids?
  • It teaches them that there is an authority outside of parents and the Lord over the home.
  • It teaches them that we behave for extrinsic reasons.
  • It teaches them that good behavior is a commodity to bargain with.
  • Kids learn that the Elf may be naughty but expects goodness.
  • Not unimportantly, it follows up the dreadful message from Twitlight that it is perfectly acceptable for some creature to come to your house and watch you sleep if they claim that it is for your benefit.
  • It teaches children that some unseen bad behavior has no negative impact.
  • It teaches them that there must be ever-escalating entertainment and novelty.
  • And scariest of all, it teaches children that parents are so unsure of themselves that they must employ a little leverage.

I'm not prepared at this time to go into how much I REALLY disagree with all of those statements. Except for the Twilight one. That's super funny. But I'd like to know what you think. So please share.

I hope you've read the article  by now. Because this is where I'm totally baffled and I'd  like to refute a few of the articles other statements. Well first she says, "Be the magic yourself."

I'd like to use this in favor of doing an elf on the shelf if you have one. The Elf is a totally easy and lazy way to create magic at your house.

And then there's this statement, "The minutes you would have spent on a prank are so much better spent with your child." And then she lists some really great ideas for using those minutes. The thing is though, I'm pretty sure the Elf does his business when the kids are asleep. Otherwise, what's the point? And I'm pretty sure I don't want my kids up at 10 o'clock catching snowflakes or drinking liquid sugar.

I'm not encouraging you moms and dads to add more to your plate, but I am encouraging you to think outside the box. You don't have to do cray cray things with the elf. Maybe you could implement alternative ideas for the Elf on the Shelf.

I love this idea. This family loves reading. So every day the kids will wake up and the Elf will be near/on/around a different book! Fun!

This really crafty mom created this Calendar that includes good ideas for the Elf on the Shelf. Service ideas! No naughtiness! See! It can be done!

These are all completely non-elf related. Which is totally a possibility! I think I might incorporate some of these with the elf. Possible!

Or if you need a good reason to tell your kids why there's no Elf, you could tell this story. Pretty hilarious.

Anyway, this is the end of me on my soapbox. I know that I am but one, and this is one's opinion. Please share yours too!

How do you spell the short version of vacation?  The answer lies below. You know how you say to your significant other or friends, "Let's go on a (insert short word for vacation)". Or, "You deserve a (insert short word again)." How do you spell it when you do write or text it? Let's discuss it below.

Vacay: If you were to pronounce this correctly it would sound like this, "vuh-kay". That sounds silly doesn't it?

Vaca: If you were to pronounce this one correctly it would sound like this, "vuh-kuh". And isn't this the Spanish word for cow? It's something like that.

Vaycay: Pronounced correctly, "vay-kay". Yay! Let's go on a vaycay! I LOVE vaycays.

While it does require and extra letter, it remains worth it to not look like an idiot when writing. Please use correctly.

So I'm feeling feisty today. Are you ready for that?

I have a cold. And for some reason that makes me feel like I can say what I want. I can't talk well. When I answer the phones at work not only do I sound like a raspy man, I sound like a sicko. An actual sicko. "Udiedet Disposal, cad I helmp you?.....Do you have your accout dumber?"

David spelled jeans, jeens. lol. So funny. And cute. I like to spell meet like meat. It always throws people off. Can you meat me there? Theres a couple other words I like to spell wrong. Some are inappropriate for young eyes.

Deep inside, I want to climb the corporate ladder. I think it would be exciting. I also feel like I am smart. I have a degree you know. I want to get my masters degree. But right now it's Davids turn. And don't worry, I'm not giving up my dreams so he (as in, "the man") can be number one. It's because it really is his time. He supported me through my degree, it's time for me to do the same.

Also, I do love my kids. I want to be with them especially bad right now. Through some gossip I found out that one of my family members (an in-law) said that I don't want to be a mom, that I only want a career. Rude. It's not even true. If you want the truth I'll tell you. I don't LOVE being a full time mom.  But I do LOVE being a mom to my kids. So shut your mouth. Well not you specifically, unless you are the one that said that.

This is now officially a couple days old. It's time to post. :-)

So first and foremost, I have a baby in my lap. I am typing around her. It's a good time. IS this what people do? I guess so.

I finally got my camera charger back. My photo skills will be appearing soon.

I love the government. They are giving us some money back. It's a miracle. I can get all the toilet paper I need. We actually are down to our last roll again. We need to go incidental shopping tonight. I'm also out of laundry detergent and fabric softener and dishwashing soap. So pretty much I can't do any chores. Its really sad. Oh wait, no it's not.

I love my babies. They are so freaking cute. I kind of feel like Jackson is gonna be famous which translates as "Jackson is going to make me rich." He is such a sweet boy. He sings "Do Re Me Fa So La Ti Do" except he only does every other one. He is pretty on tune too. Smarty. Can someone help me with my punctuation in the above paragraph. I know my quotarions are wrong. Help.

Sadie is a little loveboat. We call her Sadielynn Faye. I'm thinking of changing it officially. I have to change her social security card anyway because it says Sadie Kaye. See, am I supposed to put quotations around that? I need to reread my Wadsworth handbook.

David and Adam are also gonna be famous which again translates as David and Adam are going to make me rich. I helped come up with their new band name. I'm not ready to reveal it yet though. Would anyone in Thatcher (or surrounding areas) like to attend their show? I have details if you are interested. Yeah. They are THAT famous.

I have to go change the exploding diaper that Sadie is sharing with me RIGHT THIS SECOND. Oh my gosh. Freaking out. I'll see you later.

P.S. Thank you for all the sweet wishes on our anniversary. And the other anniversary. You are all very sweet.
